INORI. Adoration for two soloists and large orchestra

After having given the Swiss premiere of Inori in Lucerne, a highlight of the “Kosmos Stockhausen” series, the musicians of the LUCERNE FESTIVAL ACADEMY will travel to Paris and Berlin to continue with guest performances of the work there. Stockhausen’s avant-garde colleagues were perplexed by Inoriwhen it was introduced in 1974 and for the first time revealed a spiritual orientation to the composer’s work. Throned on a pedestal high above the orchestra, two dancers accompany the orchestra’s meditative sounds with prayer gestures from different religions, for which Stockhausen developed a special notation of his own. It’s a 70-minute ritual that the dancer-mimes have spent months preparing and rehearsing. Which is why Inori is rarely performed.
